FAG 52208 Thrust Ball Bearing

The FAG 52208 is a single direction thrust ball bearing, also known as a ball thrust bearing or axial deep groove ball bearing. This type of bearing consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring, and a ball and cage assembly. Thrust ball bearings feature an open design, and their ball elements make them suitable for high rotational speeds.

Single direction thrust ball bearings can accommodate axial loads in only one direction, allowing the shaft to be axially located in one direction. However, they are not designed to accommodate radial loads.

The shaft ring is mounted on the shaft and rotates together with it. The housing ring has a slightly larger bore diameter, allowing the shaft to pass through with sufficient clearance.

As thrust ball bearings are separable, the individual components can be easily mounted separately. However, care should be taken during assembly to avoid mixing up the shaft ring and housing ring.

The housing ring of the FAG 52208 features a spherical seat. This design allows the bearing to be combined with a spherical adjustment ring or pad, which is available separately. This combination helps compensate for minor misalignment between the shaft and housing.
